In early 1989, I traveled to Vietnam with George Archibald, founder of the International Crane Foundation of Baraboo, Wisconsin, on assignment for Sierra Magazine. Although I had been working as a writer for a regionally-syndicated radio program, and had done some freelance photographic work, this was my first major piece for a nationally-scoped publication. I was thrilled, excited and terrified all at once! The travel was a very successful, with lifetime memories and a number of publications beyond the Sierra article.
